Easy way to look at things

The easiest and the fastest way to look at an event is by looking at a timeline.

1935 - Italy invades Ethiopia.

1936 - Italians capture Addis Ababa, Haile Selassie flees, king of Italy made emperor of Ethiopia; Italy combines Ethiopia with Eritrea and Italian Somaliland to become Italian East Africa.

Haile Selassie's reign

1941 - British and Commonwealth troops, greatly aided by the Ethiopian resistance - the arbegnoch - defeat the Italians, and restore Haile Selassie to his throne.

1952 - United Nations federates Eritrea with Ethiopia.

1962 - Haile Selassie annexes Eritrea, which becomes an Ethiopian province. (D)

The process

In November to December 1934, the Ethiopian patrol clashed with an Italian garrison at the Welwel oasis in the Ogaden. Rome began seriously preparing for war, and Haile Selassie continued to trust in the collective security promised by the League of Nations.(A)
On October 2nd, 1935, Italian army crossed the frontier. Then, Haile Selassie ordered the army to prepare. (A)

However, Italy had much more technology development than Ethiopia due to Industrialization. Obviously, Ethiopians knew nothing of Industrialization. The Italians used air power and poison gas, and conquered the country easily. The Emperor went into exile on May 2, 1936. (B)

Italy's conquest caused outrage all over the world.African Americans from the United States, the Carribean, the Europe and many places took this event as an assault to Black men's Zion. In Harlem, New York, many protested to the United States government saying that they want to be part of war. They shouted "Down with Mussolini." People made paintings criticizing the war. It was named "Selassie and Mussolini during the Italian ivasion of Ethiopia" by Jah Scratch. (A)
